Do you know someone at your school who goes above and beyond to care for the environment? Are they an effective leader who advocates for waste reduction, environmental justice, climate change mitigation, or other similar causes? Nominate them for a Green Award! The annual Clark County Green Awards are a fun celebration of environmental champions in our community, recognizing individuals, educators, students, and businesses for the committed work they do to promote sustainable practices locally.
This year, Clark County Green Schools will be bestowing two separate awards. We have added a brand-new award category for 2022: the Green Team Award. This award honors students who are active on their school's Green Team and have spearheaded impressive sustainability initiatives around their campus. These students have fostered a more environmentally-conscious school culture through their green team work. In addition to the Green Team Award, we are also continuing to present the Green Apple Award to a school employee who is a dedicated sustainability leader within their school community. Green Apple nominees consistently demonstrate their dedication to educating students about the importance of waste reduction and environmental stewardship in the classroom and/or projects throughout the school.
Last year's Green Apple Award winner was Nancy Stoy, a custodian at Lacamas Lake Elementary School in Camas School District. As the founder of the school's Green Team, Nancy motivates students to compost, recycle, and conserve natural resources. Nancy's passionate work makes a genuine difference in the lives of her students and energizes them to become sustainability ambassadors. Watch this video to learn more about why Nancy was granted last year's Green Apple Award!
If you know an educator, school employee, or Green Team that deserves special appreciation for their sustainability efforts, fill out a nomination form by early January. Links to the nomination forms are found below.
