Are you looking for inspiration for your school garden? Come check out the Clark County Natural Garden Tour on Sunday, July 17 from 10 am - 4 pm! This is a great opportunity to explore some of the county's most beautiful home gardens and learn about the innovative gardening techniques that allow them to thrive without the use of synthetic chemicals.
Why Garden Naturally?
Many chemical pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers that are commonly used in gardens contain ingredients that are harmful for both the environment and human health. The chemicals found in these popular garden additives easily get washed from our yards into nearby surface water and can end up polluting our watersheds, drinking water, soil, and vegetation. This is dangerous for any wildlife, pets, or children that may come into contact with such toxic substances. Using natural gardening techniques can also improve soil quality and grow healthier, more nutrient-rich plants by encouraging beneficial soil microbe activity. Minimizing the use of synthetic pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers, therefore, helps maintain a healthy environment for all.
What is the Natural Garden Tour?
This year, the Natural Garden Tour will return in-person after two years of virtual tours. Join us for a self-guided tour of nine private gardens throughout Clark County that will showcase a variety of creative, ecologically friendly gardening approaches. Some strategies you might learn about include ways to create wildlife and pollinator habitat in your garden, reducing the need for watering and synthetic chemicals, building healthy soil, and more. We encourage you to take notes and implement some of these techniques at your school garden next year!
