Meet the New Green Schools AmeriCorps Member!

Hello! My name is Trudi Timperman and I am beyond excited to be joining the Clark County Green Schools team as an AmeriCorps member through Washington Service Corps! I will serve as an Environmental Outreach Coordinator from September 2021 until August 2022.

I grew up in Spokane, Washington and attended the University of Portland where I graduated earlier this year with a B.A. in Environmental Ethics & Policy and a minor in Global Business. During my time at UP, I served as a founding member of the Sustainability and Social Responsibility Committee, studied abroad in Salzburg, Austria, volunteered on the inaugural Environmental Justice Immersion, and researched the sociopolitical dimensions of coastal wetland restoration in the Puget Sound for my senior capstone. In my free time, I love hiking, backpacking, skiing, and exploring new places throughout the beautiful Pacific Northwest. Let me know of any must-see destinations in the Vancouver area!

My main responsibility as a Green Schools Outreach Coordinator is to assist Clark County schools with their waste reduction, composting, and recycling efforts through a combination of in-person lunchtime visits and remote support. I will work to educate students on how to properly sort their waste, provide the necessary supplies for schools to execute their sustainability endeavors, and connect with staff and Green Teams to evaluate their efforts. I am looking forward to collaborating with students, school staff, community partners, and more on an array of sustainability initiatives. Working with the Green Schools team presents an exciting opportunity to learn, grow, and connect with my local community, and I cannot wait to see what this next year of service brings!

Please don't hesitate to reach out via email (trudi.timperman@clark.wa.gov) or introduce yourself in person if you see me in your cafeteria or classroom!
