Nancy Stoy is the 2021 Clark County Green Apple Award recipient. Nancy is the Green Team leader and day custodian at Lacamas Lake Elementary. She has been a leader and champion for students and the environment, growing a Green Team to over 50 students and helping students find a place to belong.

The Clark County Green Awards are a celebration of our community's best environmental champions. Awards are given to recognize outstanding sustainability work being done by individuals, organizations and businesses in Clark County. Educators and school employees merit the Green Apple Award because of their outstanding efforts in educating students in issues of environmental conservation, and in leading their schools towards a sustainable future. Green Apple Award nominees demonstrate their ability to teach youth about environmental protection and resource conservation in a classroom and/or through school community projects.

March 20, 2020 was the original date for the 2020 Clark County Green Awards, right after the COVID-19 pandemic hit. The event was postponed and we hoped to hold it in the fall. As it became clear that was not possible, our Green Awards committee decided to hold the 2020 recipients over to 2021. We were hopeful, again, to hold a live event, but that was not to be. This year our honorees will be celebrated virtually.

See Nancy in action and hear from principal Julie Mueller, superintendent Jeff Snell and the parent who nominated Nancy for the Green Apple Award, Mike True.

Note: the school footage was filmed in February 2020, pre-pandemic.

Nancy Stoy has led the Lacamas Lake Green team in many ways. Nancy is a team player and works hard to support others in the school as well.

"She is an integral leader for the school and advocate for kids and programs working together to impact the community and environment in positive and lasting ways."

parent who nominated Nancy

Here's a bit from the application to nominate Nancy:

"According to the Lacamas Lake Elementary school counselor, she has never known a custodian as exceptional as Nancy Stoy! The relationships and connections Nancy makes with students are both exceptional and unique. Nancy goes out of her way to support all students, especially those students who struggle to be successful at school. Nancy works with teachers, parents and staff to provide opportunities for a number of students during the day. She creates "jobs" where students are given opportunities to serve their school community and find a purpose while contributing to the school. Lacamas Lake Elementary houses the district's social/emotional learning program for students that require additional support beyond what a general education teacher can provided. Nancy is often one of the first staff members to respond when a student is escalated and requiring support. She is dependable, trustworthy and compassionate. Nancy Stoy is the heart of Lacamas Lake Elementary School. The staff, students and families at Lacamas are so grateful for the impact that Nancy makes in the lives of students each and every day."

Congratulations Nancy, from the Clark County Green Schools team.
