Have your students heard about AmeriCorps? It's a national employment program that pairs young Americans with service opportunities. It is a great way for high school or college graduates to gain real world job experience while giving back to their communities. The program provides a strong support network and an educational scholarship. AmeriCorps members often serve at non-profit or government agencies and can work in a variety of fields including disaster response, education, veteran's services, or environmental stewardship.
I am proud to be the AmeriCorps member serving at Clark County Green Schools. Every day I get to help students and school staff with environmental stewardship; I am gaining valuable professional development while also feeling good about the work I do.
In honor of AmeriCorps week, I'm hoping to spread the word about our program! I have a short presentation that I'd be happy to give to high school classrooms. Does your school have an active Green Team? Any students interested in environmental work? AmeriCorps could be the program that jump starts their careers.
Contact Carly at carly.marshall@clark.wa.gov if you'd like her and her fellow AmeriCorps to come talk with your students.
